ABOUT THIS WORK:

I try not to overthink the reasons I find myself drawn, several times a year, to the resting place of my grandfather, who lived to be 101. Recently, my father asked that I take him along with me on my next visit. After we arrived, he asked me to read aloud one of his favorite prayers, one I realized I’d never heard.

It asked for support to change… “weakness into strength, and powerlessness into might, and fear into calm, and doubt into certainty.”

The word fear made me pause. It’s not a word I’ve heard used in my family of origin. It’s beautiful to hear it now. To first acknowledge fear, so we can then open the path towards calm. I wanted to remember these words, and spend time with them.

Fear into Calm.
